Alonso is a candidate for the 2011 Republican Party nomination for District 38 of the New Jersey General Assembly. Alonso and Richard Goldberg were bracketed together and defeated [Joseph Gant]], Scott Verrone, and Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz in the Republican primary. Connie Terranova Wagner and Timothy Eustace ran unopposed in the June 7 Democratic primary. Vinko Grskovic is running as an Independent in the November 8 general election as well.[1]

NJ Spotlight has identified the 38th as one of the most competitive districts in the state, with potential for the GOP to pickup a seat in the Assembly.[2]
