Iler ran for re-election in 2012. He ran unopposed in the May 8, 2012 Republican primary. He defeated Lundia Washington (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]

On November 2, 2010 Iler won election to the North Carolina House of Representatives. He defeated Henry Tyson in the Republican primary on May 4 by a margin of 6,131-2,106. Iler faced James Knox (D) in the general election on November 2.[2]
