Three seats were up for election on the Frederick County School Board on November 5, 2013. Unopposed incumbents Peggy Clark, John Lamanna and Frank E. Wright retained their Redbud, Shawnee and Stonewall District seats, respectively.

Frederick County Public Schools is located in Frederick County, Virginia. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Frederick County is home to 78,305 residents.[1]

Demographics

In terms of average household income and poverty rate, Frederick County overperformed in these areas. The average household income was $66,440 compared to $63,302 in the entire state. Frederick County had a poverty rate of 7.9%, while the poverty rate for Virginia was 10.7%. The graduation rate was an area where Frederick County underperformed, 84.3% compared to 86.6% statewide.[1]

Method of board member selection

The Frederick County School Board consists of seven members who serve four-year terms. Six of those members serve by magisterial districts, and one serves at-large. FCPS did not hold a primary election, and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Though the board is officially partisan, all current members ran as independents in the last race.[3]
