Landrieu ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Louisiana's 2nd District. Landrieu was defeated by incumbent Cedric Richmond (D) in the November 6 blanket primary.[2] Louisiana does not hold a primary before the November 6 general election. If candidates did not receive a majority of the vote on that date, they went to a runoff, which was held on December 8.
