George C. Edwards is a Republican member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 1. He was first elected to the chamber in 2006. He previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates from January 12, 1983 to January 10, 2007.


Edwards earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Fairmont State College in 1970 and his teaching certification from Frostburg State College in 1974. His professional experience includes being drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1970 and playing professional football as a fullback. He served in the Maryland National Guard from 1970 to 1976.

Edwards was born in Grantsville, Maryland on April 9, 1948. He is married and has two children. He has been a member of the Garrett County Development Corporation, National Rifle Association, American Legion, Lonaconing Republican Club and Lions Club. In 1997 he received the Legislator Recognition Award from the Maryland Association of Counties.[8]
