The New York Governor is the State's Chief Executive and charged with a number of responsibilities such as the preparation of the state's budget, execution and enforcement of the state of New York laws and Commander-in-Chief of New York's military and naval forces.

The current officeholder is David Paterson. He leaves office in January 2011 to be succeeded by fellow Democrat Andrew Cuomo.
