A petition to recall members of the Grosse Pointe Shores City Council was filed on October 2, 2009 in Wayne County. The recall petition specifically targets Mayor James Cooper and council members Brian Hunt, Victoria Boyce, Robert Graziani and Frederick Minturn. The petition was filed by Robert Lee, a local resident. According to Lee, the petition targets council members who voted for a 1-mill property tax increase in June 2009.[1] An election is expected to be held in May 2010.

Path to the ballot

The Wayne County Election Commission approved the language in the petition on October 19, 2009.[2] In order to qualify the petition for a recall election recall supporters must collect a minimum of 400 valid signatures within 180 days of the petition language being approved.[3]
