Mikkelson worked as a Family Independence Specialist with the State of Michigan from 1997-2002, a social worker from 1993-1997, House Parent with the Michigan School for the Deaf from 1978-1993, Resident Care Aide with the Michigan Department of Mental Health from 1972-1975, and served in the United States Army, Vietnam.^[1]
