A Hartland School District Levy Renewal measure was on the May 4, 2010 ballot in the Hartland school district which is in Livingston County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 1,094 Approveda
  • NO 379 [1]

This measure sought to renew the $18 per $1,000 of assessed property tax levy, for property that is not considered the primary residence for a person, namely commercial buildings in the district. This measure is brought to the ballot every year for the school district and they consider it vital to the operational budget of the district.[2] This non homestead tax was implemented in 1994 and although the election to renew it is standard procedure, local officials were hoping that residents will actually go out and vote on this issue because it is so important to the schools. This tax accounts for around $4.8 million of the school's operating budget for the year.[3]
