Welcome to Hawaii on Ballotpedia!

Surrounded entirely by the Pacific Ocean, the state of Hawaii is a volcanic island chain comprised of eight “main” islands. Hawaii was the last state to join the Union and is one of only two U.S. states that do not observe daylight savings time.

The state government of Hawaii is modeled after the federal government with adaptations originating from the kingdom era of Hawaiian history. As codified in the Constitution of Hawaii, there are three branches of government: executive, legislative and judicial. Hawaii has two members of the U.S. Senate, two members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 51 members of the Hawaii House of Representatives and 25 members of the Hawaii State Senate.
