A tilde is a character on your computer keyboard. It looks like this: ~

Tildes are important on Ballotpedia because they allow you to "sign" notes you leave on article talk pages and user talk pages.

In order to sign a note, type four tildes, like this: ~~~~.

Ballotpedia automatically converts those four tildes into your user name, followed by the date and time of your note. MMH 08:26, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

What happens if I only use 3 tildes?

If you sign a post using 3 tildes, your user name will appear, but the post will not be time-stamped. January
