|U.S. House, Louisiana, District 5|
Herford was a Republican and Ron Paul supporter until the 2012 Louisiana Republican convention, when he injured his artificial hip during a scuffle with off-duty police. The altercation occurred after Shreveport police arrested Alex Helwig, the head of the Paul contingent, who along with Herford tried to start their own off-shoot convention.
Herford ran for the U.S. House representing the 5th Congressional District of Louisiana. The election was held to replace Rodney Alexander, who announced his resignation in order to take a position as the next Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs at the end of September 2013. He was defeated in the open primary on October 19, 2013.
