Herman Quirmbach (b. October 6, 1950) is a Democratic member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 23. He was first elected to the chamber in 2002. He served on the Ames City Council from 1995 to 2003.


Quirmbach earned his B.A. from Harvard University in 1972 and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1980 and 1983, respectively. His professional experience includes working as an Associate Professor of Economics at Iowa State University.

The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 14, 2014. Incumbent Herman C. Quirmbach defeated Cynthia Oppedal Paschen in the Democratic primary, while Jeremy Davis was unopposed in the Republican primary. Quirmbach faced Davis in the general election.[1][2] Incumbent Quirmbach defeated challenger Davis in the general election.[3]

Quirmbach defeated Republican candidate Timothy Gartin by a margin of 11,767 to 10,488 in the November 2 general election.[4]
