Recall laws

An effort to recall council members Ryan Bladzik, Chris Rankin, George Kullis, and Debra Musgrave in Holly, Michigan from their positions was launched in March 2014.[1]

Recall proponent arguments

Recall proponents oppose the council's decision to contract with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office for public safety dispatch services. As as a result of this agreement, the community's local dispatch service will be terminated and all dispatch equipment will be disposed of.[1]

Initial paperwork was filed against the four council members on March 27, 2014. A clarity hearing on the petition language was held on April 16, 2014 with the Oakland County Board of Election Commissioners. If the language was approved, petitioners would need to collect 207 signatures by mid-May 2014 in order to trigger a recall election. In the event that enough valid signatures are collected, a recall election would be scheduled for August 5, 2014.[1]

Because the terms of office for Rankin and Kullis expire in November 2014, they cannot be recalled. According to state law, only Bladzik and Musgrave are eligible to be recalled.[1]
