Welcome to Idaho on Ballotpedia!


As the 43rd state admitted into the Union, Idaho is located in the northwest region of the United States. It is landlocked by Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming and British Columbia. Nicknamed both the “Gem State” and the “Potato State,” Idaho’s capital is Boise and is located near the southeast region of the state. Currently, Idaho has two Republican members of the U.S. Senate, two Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 70 members of the Idaho House of Representatives and 35 members of the Idaho State Senate. As of September 2013, Idaho is one of 24 Republican state government trifectas.

The structure of the Idaho judicial system is laid out in Article V of the state constitution. The state court system is made up of the Idaho Supreme Court, the Idaho Court of Appeals and the Idaho District Courts.


On the federal level, there are two courts with statewide jurisdiction: the United States District Court for the District of Idaho and the District of Idaho Bankruptcy Court.
