The Idaho State Board of Education oversees K-12 public education in Idaho. It was founded in 1891, the first year of Idaho's statehood. The same year, the Idaho State Legislature created the Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction to supervise public education. In 1933, the Superintendent of Public Instruction was named as the executive secretary of the Idaho State Board of Education.[2] The department managed 755 schools and 287,329 during the 2012-2013 school year.[3]
