The 4th Congressional District of Illinois is a congressional district including the Chicago community of Brighton Park, in addition to almost all of Hermosa, Lower West Side and Gage Park; parts of Albany Park, Irving Park, Avondale, Logan Square, West Town, Humboldt Park, Belmont Cragin, Austin, McKinley Park, South Lawndale, New City, West Elsdon and Archer Heights; portions of riverfront Bridgeport; the portion of North Center southwest of Clybourn Avenue; and the northwestern tip of Lincoln Park.

On March 30, 2012 the 4th district was included in a list released by the National Journal of the top ten most contorted congressional districts, as a result of redistricting. [1]

The current representative of the 4th congressional district is Luis Gutierrez (D).

The 4th congressional district of Illinois will hold an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6, 2012.

2010

On November 2, 2010, Luis V. Gutierrez won re-election to the United States House of Representatives. He defeated Israel Vasquez (R) and Robert J. Burns (G) in the general election.[2]

In 2011, the Illinois State Legislature re-drew the Congressional districts based on updated population information from the 2010 census.

On March 30, 2012 the 4th district was included in a list released by the National Journal of the top ten most contorted congressional districts, as a result of redistricting. [1]
