The Illinois Superintendent of Education
is a state executive position in the Illinois state government. The superintendent works with the state board of education to provide leadership, assistance, resources and advocacy so that every student is prepared to succeed in careers and postsecondary education, and shares accountability for doing so with districts and schools.
The current officeholder is Christopher Koch. He was appointed as by the State Board of Education effective December 1, 2006.
