There were 220 seats in two states with a general election in 2013. We took a look at each of the states to see how many state legislative incumbents had no primary or general election challenge in 2013.

Our main findings:

  • The incumbent chose to run for re-election in 205 (93.2%) of the 220 seats with state legislative elections in 2013.
  • In 50 (24.4%) of those 205 seats, the incumbent faced no challenger in the primary or general election.
