The current director is Cameron Clark. He was appointed by Gov. Mike Pence in May 2013 to replace Robert Carter, Jr.. Carter had served in the position since his initial appointment by Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) in 2006.[1]

Title 14, Article 9, Chapter 2 of the Indiana Code addresses the office of director of natural resources:[2]

The office of director of the department is created. The governor shall appoint the director, who serves at the pleasure of the governor. The director is the executive and chief administrative officer of the department.

The director of natural resources is responsible for overseeing the Indiana State Department of Natural Resources, which regulates natural resources in Indiana. The department is divided into the regulatory management team and the land management team.[3]
