The Indiana Lieutenant Governor is a statewide constitutional office in Indiana. The lieutenant governor is elected on the same ticket as the governor in a statewide election every four years. The lieutenant governor also serves as president of the Indiana Senate. Like the governor the lieutenant governor must uphold the state constitution and laws of Indiana. The lieutenant governor of Indiana serves as acting-governor when the governor becomes incapacitated or, in the state's early history, when the governor was away from the capitol.

The current officeholder is Becky Skillman.

Qualifications

The term of office of the lieutenant governor of Indiana is four years.

A candidate for lieutenant governor is required to be:

  • at least thirty-years old
  • a United States citizen
  • a resident of Idaho for at least five consecutive years prior to the election
  • may not hold any other state or federal office during their term
