Indiana to hold Senate and House elections in 2010

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana: Indiana voters will have more than just ballot measures to decide on this coming general election. On November 2, 2010, residents will decide on both Senate and House members. In the Senate, elections for 25 of the 50 senate districts will be held, with 22 incumbents running for office. In the House, 30 incumbents face no opposition, meaning that barring a last minute twist, will be re-elected to their seats.
Senate members have four year terms and House members have two year terms, while both chambers do not have term limits. As of 2010, members of the Indiana legislature are paid $22,616.46/year. Additionally, legislators receive $138/day per diem tied to the federal rate. The $22,660.46/year that Indiana legislators are paid as of 2010 is an increase over the $11,600/year they were paid during legislative sessions in 2007. Per diem has increased from $137/day in 2007 to $138/day in 2010. Indiana legislators assume office the day after their general election.
