Election results

  • Yes: 40,861 (78.2%) Approveda
  • No: 11,415 (21.8%)

Results are from the Orange County elections division as of November 24, 2010.

Opposition

The Orange County Register's editorial board is opposed to Measure R, arguing:

  • "Voters should be aware that, at the Irvine Unified School District, at least, school administrators have not been frugal with taxpayer dollars."[1]
  • "From fiscal year 2003-04 to 2008-09, the most recent year available, teacher salaries at Irvine Unified rose to an average $3,514 per pupil from $2,991, a 17 percent increase. Administrator salaries rose to $431 per pupil from $320 – a 35 percent increase and about double that for teachers. And all those salaries were rising as the economy was tipping into the deepest recession in 70 years."[1]
