Irvine Schools Support Initiative, Measure R (November 2010)
Measure R ratifies and extends decisions of the Irvine City Council to provide financial support for the Irvine and Tustin Unified School Districts by allocating funds each year for the Irvine Educational Partnership Fund and the Challenge Match Grant programs for Fiscal Years 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 on the same general terms and at the same general levels as has been approved by the City Council for Fiscal Year 2010-2011.
Results are from the Orange County elections division as of November 24, 2010.
The Orange County Register's editorial board is opposed to Measure R, arguing:
- "Voters should be aware that, at the Irvine Unified School District, at least, school administrators have not been frugal with taxpayer dollars."
- "From fiscal year 2003-04 to 2008-09, the most recent year available, teacher salaries at Irvine Unified rose to an average $3,514 per pupil from $2,991, a 17 percent increase. Administrator salaries rose to $431 per pupil from $320 – a 35 percent increase and about double that for teachers. And all those salaries were rising as the economy was tipping into the deepest recession in 70 years."
