Drake is a farmer and President of the East Pottawattamie Extension Council.
He is a member of 4-H, Cattlemen's Association, Corn Growers, East Pottawattamie County Farm Bureau, Pottawattamie County Republican Central Committee, Pottawattamie County Taxpayers Association, Soybean Association, United Methodist Church, and the Walnut Area Development Association.

Drake ran for re-election to the 57th District Seat in 2010 with no opposition. He was also unopposed in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.
