Crawford earned his BA in History from Providence College. He went on to receive his MA in Urban Studies and Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University.
Crawford has served in the United States Army as a race relations officer. He has also worked as an educator for Westbrook Schools. He is also the owner of The Maples Motel.
