Taylor was running in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Illinios' 2nd District. Taylor was seeking the nomination on the Republican ticket.[1] The signature filing deadline was December 27, 2011, with the primary taking place on March 20, 2012. Incumbent Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. is seeking re-election on the Democratic ticket.

Incumbent Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. won in the Democratic primary against Debbie Halvorson.[2] Candidate Brian Woodworth won in the Republican primary, defeating Taylor, and advancing to the general election against Jackson on November 6, 2012.[2]
