Issues

Dorris outlines her views on three issues central to her campaign on her site:

Improving Our Economy

Excerpt:"Every day, more and more hard working North Texans face a tight job market and a tough economy. Employers are offering lower pay wages with fewer benefits to new employees. Working families can’t afford to keep up with everyday bills with continuing pay cuts, high insurance premiums and sky-rocketing utility bills. Jamie knows that attracting new businesses to North Texas will be vital to economic growth in our region and will work hard to bring those prospects to the district."

Protecting Consumers

Excerpt:"Jamie knows that hard working North Texas families have enough on their plate without having to worry about sudden utility hikes and increasing insurance premiums. Too often highly influential electric providers will increase utilities rates without notice to the consumer. As a result, electric bills for families have more than doubled. North Texans also pay some of the highest homeowner insurance rates in the country, and receive minimal coverage. Jamie will hold insurance companies accountable and push for meaningful insurance reform in Austin."

Working for Quality Education — from Kindergarten through College

Excerpt:"Education is the key to economic growth in Texas, but the Legislature in Austin continues to fail Texas families, students and teachers by not passing true public school finance reform. Public schools lack the funding they need to provide quality education to students which makes it harder for them to compete in an already suffering job market. Jamie will consult with local school district officials and educators and reach out across the aisle to develop working solutions to public school finance."

College tuition rates have more than doubled since 2003. The deregulation of tuition has caused skyrocketing increases and has denied access to higher education to qualified students. Jamie knows first hand what it is to be a student today taking on multiple jobs and high interest student loans to pay tuition bills and fees. She will go to Austin to make sure that students who work hard have an opportunity to attain a college education."[1]
