In the February 2, 2010 primary for Lieutenant Governor, Plummer finished first among six candidates, narrowly ahead of State Senator Matt Murphy. In the general election, he will run on a ticket with State Senator Bill Brady.

The IL GOP team for Governor and Lieutenant Governor faced Democratic gubernatorial nominee Pat Quinn and his running mate (who will be appointed by the Illinois Democratic Party, as the winner of that Lt. Governor primary has withdrawn. [4]) Schorsch, Kristen in the election to be held November 2, 2010.

Plummer faced Sheila Simon (D), Don W. Crawford (G), Ed Rutledge (L) and Baxter B. Swilley (I) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
