Berkey earned her BA in Business from the University of Washington.
Berkey was an accounting clerk/senior clerk for GTE Northwest Incorporated, from 1956 to 1971. In 1974 she worked as a job analyst for Scott Paper Companyand then as an employment relations specialist for the Kenworth Truck Company from 1975 to 1977. She then became Recruitment Supervisor for the Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska from 1977 to 1979. She was the manager of Berkey and Associates from 1980 to 2000.
