Jeanette White (b. May 2, 1943) is a Democratic member of the Vermont State Senate, representing the Windham District. She was first elected to the chamber in 2002.

Biography

White earned her B.S. in Political Science/Sociology from the University of Iowa in 1965. She went on to receive her M.S. in Community Development and Education from Southern Illinois University in 1972.

White was the administrative director for Sojourns. She was County Coordinator for the Council on Aging for Southeast Vermont from 1972 to 1981. She went on to work as mailroom supervisor for Appropriate Technology from 1983 to 1989. From 1989 to 2000, she worked as Continuing Education Coordinator for the University of Vermont. White then became Nonprofit Director for Sojourns Community Health Clinic in 2000 and worked there until 2004. She is currently Grants Manager for the Town of Brattleboro.

White served as member/chair of Putney Selectboard from 1989 to 1998.

White ran for re-election to the 27th District Seat (Windham District) in 2010. She ran against Peter Galbarith (D) and Toby Young (D) in the Democratic primary on August 24, 2010. She defeated Hilary Cooke (R), Lynn Corum (R), and Aaron Diamondstone (I) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[2]

On November 4, 2008, White won re-election by finishing second for the two-seat Windham District of the Vermont State Senate, receiving 13,531 votes behind Democrat Peter Shumlin (14,866) and ahead of Liberty Union candidate Aaron Diamondstone (2,464) and write-ins (219).[3]

White's opponent Shumlin raised $3,350 for his campaign.[4]
