Jerry Farrell is the current Commissioner of the State Department of Consumer Protection, appointed to the position by Governor M. Jodi Rell in December 2006. In late-January 2010, he announced his candidacy for the statewide office of secretary of state, a seat that was vacated by Susan Bysiewicz, who decided not to run for re-election to her current position.[1] Farrell officially received the endorsement of the Connecticut Republican Party at their state convention on Saturday, May 22, 2010.[2] Six months later, he lost to State House Majority Leader Denise Merrill in the general election after receiving nearly forty-four percent of the vote.

Political career

Since the age of eighteen, Farrell has operated in various capacities within local politics. He served seven terms on the Wallingford Town Council and spent several years as both the Selectman and Justice of the Peace for Wallingford. In September 2004, Farrell as named as Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection by Republican Governor M. Jodi Rell. Two years later, Rell called upon him to serve the public as Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection, a position he still maintains today.
