Joan L. Millman (b. June 20, 1940) is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly, representing District 52. She was first elected to the chamber after she won a special election in February 1997. Millman is also presently a member of the Major Steering Committee in the New York State Assembly, and a member of the Independent Neighborhood Democratic Club.

Her other political experience includes being chairperson of the Kings County Democratic Committee, a state committeewoman, and a democratic district leader of the 52nd Assembly District.

Biography

Millman earned her B.A. from Brooklyn College, her M.S. in Library Science from the Pratt Institute, and a professional diploma from Long Island University.[1] Her professional experience includes being a facilitator, working as an elementary school teacher, as a school librarian, and as an educational consultant.

Millman ran in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 52. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. She also ran on the Working Families Party ticket. He defeated John R. Nijhawan in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [2][3]
