Joan Walker is a Democratic candidate in the 2011 special election for District 101 of the Connecticut House of Representatives. The special election takes place on February 22, 2011. Walker is running to fill the vacancy created after Deborah Heinrich (D) resigned to serve as an advocate for social service agencies.[1]

Walker is a small business owner.

Campaign themes

Walker's 2011 special election Facebook page emphasizes several key policy positions and campaign themes:

  • "When the economy collapsed in 2008, Joan's company suffered as her business's cash flow disappeared almost overnight. Faced with the realistic possibility of her company becoming a casuality of the recession, she drafted a successful recovery plan that included the termination of her own position with the company. Two years later, her plan proved successful as Joan's company is growing once again. Joan promises to bring the same business sense, intelligence and determination to Hartford as she fights to bring us back from the edge of a financial breaking point. She will fight to eliminate government waste and inefficiency, create tax incentives for employers who both create and maintain jobs in Connecticut, and work with industry to reduce our energy and healthcare costs. She will work to protect our natural environment and strengthen businesses and growth in our state."
