Hood is an attorney and operates his own law office in Ackerman, MS. He has also worked for former U.S. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) and was a clerk for the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Hood earned his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law and holds a B.A. in political science and history from Mississippi State University.
Hood is running in the 2011 election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 35. He defeated J. Shannon Crow in the primary on August 2, 2011. No Democratic candidates filed to run for election. The general election takes place on November 8, 2011.
