Hood is an attorney and operates his own law office in Ackerman, MS. He has also worked for former U.S. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) and was a clerk for the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Hood earned his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law and holds a B.A. in political science and history from Mississippi State University.
On November 8, 2011, Hood won re-election to District 35 of the Mississippi House of Representatives. He defeated J. Shannon Crow in the primary on August 2, 2011. Hood was unchallenged in the November 8 general election.
