John Astle is a Democratic member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 30. He was first elected to the chamber in 1994. He previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1983 to 1995.

Astle earned his B.A. in Sociology from Marshall University in 1966. He served in the United States Marine Corps both on active duty and in the reserves.
