John Cook (b. February 27, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York) is a Democratic candidate for Texas Land Commissioner in the 2014 elections.


He served as the Mayor of El Paso, Texas from June 13, 2005-June 23, 2013.[1] Prior to his election he served as the District 4 City Council Representative for the City of El Paso from 1999 to June 2005. He is the longest serving elected official on the El Paso City Council.[2]

Cook ran for election to the position of Texas Land Commissioner. Cook won the Democratic nomination in the unopposed primary on March 4, 2014.[1] The general election took place November 4, 2014.
