Jones was running for re-election to the Illinois State Senate in District 54 in the 2012 election. However, he withdrew from the race on January 4, 2012.[2] Jones was set to face Kyle McCarter, the District 51 incumbent, in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012.[3][4]
