McCay, Jr. is a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the Mississippi Air National Guard.

McCay ran for election to Mississippi Senate District 47. He did not appear on the primary ballot. Mitch Ellerby ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 8, 2011. [1]
