Yates' professional experience includes working as a Distribution Manager in the Parts Depot at the Ford Motor Company. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.

The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Mario D. Driver was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent John P. Yates was unopposed in the Republican primary. Driver was defeated by Yates in the general election.[1][2][3]
