Joseph Abruzzo is a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 85th District since 2008.

Abruzzo is a Port Security Specialist with the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard. He has also worked as Southern Regional Director of Marketing for Cataldo Interiors Group, and Vice-President of New Business Development for Gateway Marketing International.

He is a member of the Democratic Club of Greater Boynton, Lake Worth West Democratic Club, Lynn University Alumni Association, Mid County Democratic Club, Trustee with the Palms West Chamber of Commerce of the United South County Democratic Club, and Voters' Coalition.[1]

Issues

Abruzzo did not provide answers to the Florida State Legislative Election 2008 Political Courage Test. The test provides voters with how a candidate would vote on the issues if elected.[2]

Abruzzo's sponsored legislation includes:

  • HB 167 - "Energy-efficient Appliance Rebate Program: Authorizes Florida Energy & Climate Commission to develop & administer consumer rebate program for specified energy-efficient appliances"
  • HB 169 - "Equine Activities: Cites act as "Nicole's Law"; requires child younger than specified age to wear helmet when riding equine in certain locations; provides requirements for helmets"

Abruzzo is running in the 2012 election for Florida State Senate District 25. Abruzzo is running unopposed in the Democratic primary on August 14, 2012. Incumbent Ellyn Bogdanoff, Mike Lameyer, and Geoffrey Sommers are running in the Republican primary. The general election takes place on November 6, 2012.[3]

Abruzzo ran for re-election to the 85th District seat in 2010. He did not have any opposition in the August 24 primary. Abruzzo defeated Tami Donnally (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[4]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Abruzzo won election to the Florida House of Representatives from Florida's 85th District, defeating Howard Coates, Jr. (R). Abruzzo received 42,814 votes in the election while Coates received 32,047 votes.[5] Abruzzo raised $320,378 for his campaign; Coates raised $96,075.[6]
