Joseph M. Getty (b. April 14, 1952) is a Republican member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 5. He was first elected to the chamber in 2010.

Getty served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1995 to 2003, where he was Deputy Minority Whip. He currently serves as State Senate Minority Whip.


Getty earned his B.A. in American Studies from Washington College in 1974, his M.A. in American Civilization from George Washington University in 1980 and his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1996. His professional experience includes working as an attorney.[1]

Elections for the office of Maryland State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Anita Riley was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Joseph Getty was unopposed in the Republican primary. Getty defeated Riley in the general election.[2][3]
