Julius Johnson is the 36th and current Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture. He was first appointed in January 2011 by Governor Bill Haslam.[1]

Biography

Prior to his appointment, Johnson served as Chief Administrative Officer of the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation.[1]

Johnson was first appointed as the Commissioner of Agriculture in December 2010 by Governor Bill Haslam.[1]

Haslam stated, "Julius is a perfect fit for the Department of Agriculture. He’s been around farming and the Tennessee Farm Bureau all of his life, and he understands the issues inside and out.

 If Tennessee is to become the number one location in the Southeast for jobs, its largest industry – agriculture – must play a part in that, and Julius knows where the advantages are in rural Tennessee.”[2]

Personal

Johnson and his wife, Karen, have two children. They reside in Columbia, TN and are members of the Columbia First United Methodist Church.
