The Kansas State Department of Education oversees public K-12 education in Kansas. The department was created in 1968 in Chapter 72, Article 77 of the Kansas State Constitution. Articles 75 and 76 of Chapter 72 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated created the establishment and composition of the State Board of Education, appointment of the Commissioner and appointment of assistant commissioners to supervise public education.[1][2]
