Karen Peterson has been a Democratic member of the Delaware State Senate since 2002.

Peterson acquired her B.S. from Neumann College, she then attended Graduate Studies at the Univ. of Pennsylvania; she later obtained her paralegal certification from Widener University and her labor relations certification from the University of Delaware. She also attended Cornell University School of Labor & Industrial Relations, the National Employment Law Institute and the Governor's Center at Duke University.

Before becoming a senator, Peterson worked for the Delaware Department of Labor.

Peterson ran for re-election to the 9th District Seat in 2010. She defeated Republican challenger Robert S. Johnston (R) in the November 2, 2010 general election.[4]
