Karim Camara is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly, representing District 43 since winning a special election in 2005.

Camara's professional experiences include congressional intern for United States Representative Major Owens; director of institutional advancement for Cush Campus Schools; as an employee of the American Red Cross of Greater New York, Emergency Family Center; student intern, assistant pastor, and executive pastor of First Baptist Church of Crown Heights.

Camara attended Wesley Theological Seminary, Fordham University, and Alfred University. He earned a BA in english literature and chemistry from Xavier University and a MDiv from New York Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Orelia, have one child.[1]

Camara ran in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 43. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. He also ran on the Working Families Party ticket. He defeated Stuart A. Balberg in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [2][3]
