Kenneth Marshall Gordon is a Democratic candidate for Colorado Secretary of State in the 2014 elections. He was the first democratic candidate filed to run in this election, but has not yet campaigned. While he has not officially dropped out of the race, many suspect he will not continue to run.[1] Gordon ran for the position once before, in 2006, losing narrowly to then-state treasurer Mike Coffman (R) in the general election.[2]

Gordon was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1992-2000 and the Colorado State Senate from 2001-2008. He served as its Senate Majority Leader in 2008.

Biography

Gordon is a Detroit native. He attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate degrees in economics and political science. In 1975, he graduated from law school at Boston University.[3]

Gordon's legal experience includes thirteen years in private practice and then as a Colorado Public Defender, from 1976-1980. He has also worked as an adjunct professor teaching political science.[3]

Political career

Colorado State Senate (2001-2008)

Gordon was first elected to the Colorado State Senate in 2000 and took office in 2001. He served as Senate Assistant Minority Leader from 2003-2004, and then as Senate Majority Leader in 2008.[3]

Colorado House of Representatives (1992-2000)

Gordon served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1992-2000. He was the House Minority Leader from 1999-2000, and then left the chamber to serve in the Senate.[3]

Gordon is entered to run in the election to the Colorado Secretary of State. It is unclear if Gordon will continue to seek the Democratic nomination in the primary election on June 24, 2014.[1] The general election takes place November 4, 2014.
