According to his website, Vaughn's campaign platform included the following issues:
- Cap federal spending at 17% of GDP
- More local control of education
- Domestic oil drilling
Vaughn had also proposed a plan to have Democrats and Republicans put forth spending priorities, and revenues would go to those areas and any leftover funds would be distributed to Representatives for spending in their districts.
Vaughn ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Virginia's 11th District. He was defeated by Chris Perkins in the June 12 Republican primary. The general election was November 6, 2012.
