The Kentucky Legislative Research Commission (LRC) is a nonpartisan legislative service agency serving the legislators and members of the Kentucky General Assembly.

History

The LRC was formed on an act of the Kentucky Legislature in 1948[1].

Governance

A 16 member committee governs the Legislative Research Commission that consists of both Republican and Democrat State House and Senate members in Kentucky. The committee appoints a director that is responsible for overseeing. the day to day operations of the Commission[1].

Bill drafting

All drafting of bills, amendments, and resolutions are handled by the LRC staff[2].

Committee staffing

All staffing of standing committees in the Kentucky General Assembly is done by the Legislative Research Commission[2].

Kentucky state budget

The LRC is responsible for overseeing the process of how the Kentucky state budget is dealt with in the Kentucky General Assembly[2].

Library services

A research library housing reference materials and past records of the General Assembly is run by the LRC[2].
