The current treasurer of Kentucky is Todd Hollenbach (D). He is the 37th state treasurer, was elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
The office of state treasurer is established in the Executive Department Article of the Kentucky Constitution.
|A Treasurer, Auditor of Public Accounts, Commissioner of Agriculture, Labor and Statistics, Secretary of State, and Attorney-General, shall be elected by the qualified voters of the State at the same time the Governor and Lieutenant Governor are elected, for the term of four years...|
Executive Department Article, Section 91 of the Kentucky Constitution establishes the qualifications of the office:

Up until 1851, the governor appointed the Treasurer with the advice and consent of the Kentucky State Legislature. The 1850 Constitution made the treasurer an elected office serving a two-year term. In 1891 this was extended to four-years.
